A Local’s Guide to Houston: Our Favorites of 2024

As the year comes to a close, we’re reflecting on some of the incredible restaurants and businesses that made 2024 unforgettable! From upscale dining to hidden gems and everything in between, Houston’s vibrant food and drink scene delivered in every way possible. Before we dive in, we want to say a heartfelt thank you for following along this year. Launching Houston Hotpass in 2024 was a dream come true, and we’re so excited for what’s coming in 2025. Now, let’s talk about the spots that stole the show this year!

First up, Hachi Houston. This modern Japanese restaurant just opened this year and has become one of our favorites. They offer an exceptional omakase experience and high-quality fish crafted with precision.

For a more upscale vibe, Leo’s River Oaks is the place to be. Leo’s is a sophisticated restaurant that combines stunning ambiance with great food. Their menu is stellar, and their chef has a talent for showcasing the finest quality ingredients in every dish. It’s perfect for special occasions or a chic night out.

If cocktails and a touch of mystery are your thing, head to Sidebar at Credence. This speakeasy offers a curated drink menu and elevated small plates in an intimate setting—perfect for date night or catching up with friends in style.

Sushi lovers will also want to visit Kirā, a temaki and vinyl bar in River Oaks from the team behind Neo. This spot blends expertly crafted sushi with an elevated, music-driven vibe. It’s a unique experience and a treat for all senses. 

La Cocina de TJ impressed us with its bold and flavorful tacos and authentic Mexican dishes! We love their extensive all-day menu serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and still think about their cheesy Birria Mac and Cheese. No matter when you visit, their menu delivers the perfect comfort food.

For a sweet treat, we couldn’t get enough of Papabubble Houston. This artisanal candy shop is as much fun to watch as it is to taste. You can even take a class to learn how to make your own lollipops and candies! (Use your Houston Hotpass to get a discount)

For a lively night out, Itaewon Pocha brings the fun with its Korean-style pub vibes, delicious snacks, and creative drinks. Their food stands out to us among other pocha spots and they’ve become a go-to for a night out!

Finally, the new Rich’s Houston rounds out our list. This vibrant cocktail lounge and day/nightlife experience delivers unforgettable food, drinks, and energy. It’s a great looking place with tons of hosted and events and good, creative dishes.
